Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Paper Conservator Technician to join our team in providing support for a 1-year contract. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the preservation and conservation of the Museum's collections, contributing to the digitization efforts and ensuring the longevity of our artifacts. The position requires a combination of theoretical understanding, practical skills, and a keen attention to detail.




Duties include the following:



  • Conservation and Preservation: Apply fundamental conservation and preservation principles, theoretical concepts, techniques, and standards to contribute to the digitization of the Museum's collections.

  • Artifact Preparation: Utilize knowledge of artifact mounts and storage enclosures, ensuring the safety and efficacy of materials used in their construction. Assist in the preparation of artifacts for handling, transport, and storage.

  • Tools and Equipment: Demonstrate skill and ability in working with tools and equipment used in preventive conservation and conservation laboratory treatment. Ensure the proper maintenance and use of equipment.

  • Organizational Skills: Exhibit excellent organizational skills, maintaining detailed records of conservation activities, and ensuring the efficient workflow within the conservation laboratory.


Qualifications:



  • Knowledge of fundamental conservation and preservation principles.

  • Familiarity with theoretical concepts, techniques, and standards.

  • Ability to apply knowledge to participate in the digitization of the Museum's collections.

  • Knowledge of artifact mounts, storage enclosures, and materials used in their construction.

  • Skill and ability in working with tools and equipment used in preventive conservation.

  • 1-3 years of hands-on, conservation-related work experience.

  • Knowledge of common agents of deterioration to recognize dangerous or deteriorating situations.
