Job Description:

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Library Technician for a 1-5 year contract position. The successful candidate will support the Head Librarian in providing library services and ensuring the smooth operation of our library resources.

Key Responsibilities:

• Metadata and Cataloging: Assist in creating and maintaining metadata, catalog, archive, and vertical file records.


• Record Maintenance: Help correct, update, and standardize information in catalog or metadata records to enhance the discovery of print, archive, and online resources.


• Inventory Verification: Check the accuracy and completeness of print and electronic inventory lists.


• Record Comparison: Compare catalog and metadata records with physical items to identify errors, missing materials, and necessary corrections.


• Physical Item Preparation: Prepare physical items for circulation, storage, removal, or binding.


• Information Integration: Update and integrate new information with existing leaflet services.


• Complex Cataloging: Assist in creating and updating catalog records, especially for items with complex or unusual entries.


• Bibliographic Records: Help create and edit bibliographic records using professional cataloging standards.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Previous library experience is required.


• Technical Skills: Basic computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office, spreadsheets, and email.


• Library Knowledge: Familiarity with library resources including online catalogs, electronic databases, websites, and bibliographies.


• Cataloging Procedures: Knowledge of procedures involved in cataloging and classifying library materials.


• Classification Systems: Understanding of library classification systems.
