Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Cataloger to join our team for a remote, full-time contract position dedicated to cataloging memoirs, biographies, and personal narratives of Holocaust survivors. The ideal candidate will possess expertise in cataloging methodologies, proficiency in library science, and a deep understanding of cataloging software and standards.

Responsibilities:

• Conduct cataloging using AACR2/RDA rules within standard library cataloging software such as OCLC Connexion and Voyager.


• Create comprehensive catalog records in MARC format for each item to facilitate their inclusion into Voyager ILS.


• Work with digitized surrogates of original items, ensuring meticulous attention to detail in cataloging these narratives.


• Utilize existing search interface to enhance the discoverability of the digitized personal narratives.

Requirements:

• Minimum of two years experience in cataloging and authority control.


• Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.


• Reading proficiency in at least one non-English European language, Hebrew or Yiddish.


• Demonstrated knowledge of AACR2, MARC, and non-MARC metadata in a library environment.


• Familiarity with bibliographic standards such as RDA, LCSH, LCGFT, and catalog management procedures.


• Proficiency in OCLC cataloging utilities and modern integrated library system applications.

Preferred: Knowledge of Holocaust history and modern European history.years
