A qualified Bottling Mechanic is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery and equipment used in the bottling process. This role ensures that bottling lines run efficiently and safely, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity. The position requires technical knowledge of mechanical systems, an understanding of industrial automation, and the ability to diagnose and resolve mechanical failures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair:Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on bottling equipment, conveyors, and related machinery.
Troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues in bottling machinery.
Repair or replace defective parts, components, and systems to ensure optimal performance. - Installation & Setup:Install new bottling machinery and equipment, ensuring proper alignment and calibration.
Set up machinery according to product specifications, including filling, capping, labeling, and packaging lines. - Troubleshooting & Diagnostics:Perform diagnostics on bottling equipment to identify malfunctions and make necessary repairs.
Use specialized tools and techniques to troubleshoot mechanical systems and electrical faults. - Safety & Compliance:Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry regulations (OSHA, FDA, etc.).
Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
Maintain equipment in compliance with the companys quality standards and operational efficiency. - Record Keeping & Reporting:Document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in maintenance logs.
Report issues, machine malfunctions, or inefficiencies to management.
Assist in preparing reports on equipment performance and maintenance schedules. - Collaboration & Teamwork:Work closely with production supervisors, engineers, and other team members to ensure smooth operations.
Participate in team meetings to discuss production schedules, issues, and improvements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a bottling mechanic or in a similar mechanical maintenance role, preferably in the food and beverage industry.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair complex machinery, including PLC-controlled equipment.
- Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- Good understanding of safety standards and regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
Education & Certifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required; Technical diploma or certification in mechanical engineering, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in industrial maintenance or mechanical systems (e.g., CMRP, CAM, etc.) is a plus.
- Forklift operation and other machinery certifications may be required.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and work in physically demanding environments.
- Capability to stand, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods.
- Work in both indoor and outdoor environments with varying temperatures.
